Leicestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Ian Holland has been appointed Captain for the first block of the 2026 Rothesay County Championship season.
Holland, who impressed in the role during the closing stages of the 2025 campaign, will lead the Foxes through the opening phase of this year’s red‘ball competition while Club Captain Peter Handscomb remains unavailable for the season.
Reflecting on the opportunity to lead the side once again, Ian Holland said:
“It’s a real privilege to captain Leicestershire for the first block of the Championship. I loved taking on the role at the back end of last season ” it was a challenge I genuinely enjoyed, and it gave me a great feel for the group and how we want to play our cricket. To have the chance to lead the lads again is something I’m really proud of. We’ve got a tight-knit squad, full of character and work ethic, and I’m excited to help drive our standards and set the tone early in the campaign.â€
Head Coach Alfonso Thomas praised Holland’s leadership qualities and the impact he made last season:
“Ian did a fantastic job leading the side at the back end of last season, and it was clear how naturally he stepped into the role. The lads connected with his calmness, professionalism and the standards he sets, which had a really positive impact on the group. He’s earned it, and I’m confident he’ll bring the same energy, clarity and composure that helped us finish last season so well. We’re all right behind him.â€
