Leicestershire’s Metro Bank One Day Cup meeting with Surrey on Tuesday set a new record attendance at Kibworth Cricket Club.
The fixture saw a 25.6% increase in spectators compared to the Foxes’ inaugural First Team visit to Fleckney Road last summer, with 1,349 fans enjoying the action this time around.
A warm day in the height of the school summer holidays, the Kibworth crowd were treated to a captivating contest with international stars Ajinkya Rahane and Peter Handscomb on show, as visitors Surrey took victory by 17 runs.
Spectators were given a unique view of the action as they adorned the boundary ropes “ while the interval presented the opportunity to explore the outfield and watch the Foxes’ batters netting ahead of their chase.
It was Leicestershire’s third outground home fixture in two seasons, following last year’s 50-over success at Fleckney Road and a County Championship game at Oakham School.
With outground matches proving a hit across the country, the Club are keen to continue the trend of showcasing cricket across the county.
Commenting, CEO Sean Jarvis said: “It was fantastic to see
such a strong crowd show their support for this year’s fixture at Kibworth.
“The feedback we have received from Members has been overwhelmingly positive. We know how popular cricket festivals are at the likes of Scarborough and Cheltenham, so that reaction further fuels our ambition to make this event a regular fixture in Leicestershire’s cricketing calendar.
“We will now sit down with Kibworth to debrief and discuss how we approach the third year of this festival, as well as assess our future plans with the club beyond 2025.â€
