Leicestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce John Thorpe has been elected as the new Chair of the Club.
John was appointed by the Board of Directors last week following his return to the Board earlier this year.
He will take over the position as Chair from Jonathan Duckworth, who joined the LCCC Board in 2020, before going on to hold the roles of Vice Chairman and Chairman.
John is a lifelong supporter of LCCC, first becoming a Member in 1972, while he also served a previous tenure on the Club’s Board until 2021, overseeing the Commercial Pillar.
As Group Managing Director at Thorpe Interior Group Ltd, John holds vast business experience, with expert knowledge across sales, finance, and development.
Discussing his appointment as Chairman, John said: “I am immensely proud to be appointed as Chair of this wonderful club. It certainly seems a long while since I was a junior Member back in 1972, and I couldn’t be more honoured that my journey as a Leicestershire fan, supporter and sponsor has culminated to this point.
“This season will be an important one for LCCC, as well as the wider cricketing community, as we have all endured a challenging few years. However, it is important to look forward and I am excited to support Sean, Claude and Paul, as well as all at the Club, in continuing their fantastic work, as we strive to ensure a positive future both on and off the field.â€
Previous Chair, Jonathan Duckworth, commented: “It has been a privilege to serve my turn as Chair and help steer the Club forward in so many ways.
“I am really pleased for John that he now has his opportunity to progress our collective ambitions for the Club we both care so much about, and he has my total support in his new role.â€
The announcement is the latest change to the Club’s Board of Directors, following the appointment of former Leicestershire batsman Matthew Boyce last month.
