Josh Davey Joins Leicestershire on Short-Term Loan

Leicestershire CCC is pleased to announce the signing of bowler Josh Davey on a short-term loan from Somerset.

The seam-bowling all-rounder arrives ahead of this week’s fixture against Worcestershire and will come straight into contention for the trip to New Road, before heading back to his parent county for the Vitality Blast.

Davey has an outstanding record in first-class cricket, taking 163 wickets at 23.06, at a cost of just 2.83 runs per over. A handy batsman too, the 32-year-old averages 20.76, with a top score of 75 not out.

The Scotland international’s best returns came during the 2021 season, claiming 35 wickets at 22.31, while he snared 24 wickets at a miserly 13.79 during the Covid-affected season the year prior.

At international level, the Aberdeen-born bowler has taken 86 wickets, headlined by figures of 6/28 against Afghanistan in 2015.

Davey will provide added impetus to the Foxes’ attack for the trip to Worcestershire, adding cover and competition to a bowling unit which has been depleted by injuries to Callum Parkinson, Matt Salisbury and Ed Barnes in recent weeks.

Discussing the loan signing, Director of Cricket Claude Henderson commented: “Josh has an excellent track record and lot of valuable experience.

“He will be a nice addition to our bowling attack and we look forward to welcoming him to our squad.”

Davey claimed 21 wickets at 21.38 in Division One last summer, while he has featured in three of Somerset’s opening five fixtures this term.
