Kibworth to Host One Day Cup Clash With Essex

Leicestershire CCC is excited to announce Kibworth Cricket Club as the host venue for August’s One Day Cup clash with Essex Eagles.

The trip to Fleckney Road on Tuesday, 15 August will be a landmark occasion, standing as the maiden appearance for the Foxes’ first team at Kibworth’s idyllic home.

The fixture will become Leicestershire’s second outground appearance of the 2023 season, following on from the four-day Festival of Cricket against Worcestershire at Oakham School in July.

Outground fixtures in the One Day Cup have become a huge hit in recent seasons, with the Foxes visiting Guildford and Radlett in the group stage last summer, while Paul Nixon’s side hosted Lancashire at Oakham for an outground contest of their own as recently as 2018.

This time around, Leicestershire will welcome Essex Eagles for a first List A meeting since 2014 “ a game the Foxes won by 34 runs thanks to the efforts of Charlie Shreck, Anthony Ireland and Shiv Thakor, who shared ten wickets between them in a low-scoring thriller.

Leicestershire connections with Kibworth CC run deep. As well as being the current home of the Club’s second XI, a host of former Foxes have donned the green and gold across the years.

Academy graduates Josh Cobb, Jigar Naik, Greg Smith and Aadil Ali have all featured for Kibworth’s first team, while T20 skipper Colin Ackermann first played in the county as an overseas player on Fleckney Road in July 2012.

Discussing the landmark fixture, Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, commented: “We are really excited to take professional cricket further across the community in Leicestershire and continue our ambition to grow the game.

“Kibworth provide excellent facilities and our second team love playing there. Hopefully this fixture is the next step in an exciting future between our two clubs.”

Geoffrey Page-Morris, Kibworth Cricket Club Chairman added: “We are really excited and privileged to welcome Leicestershire’s 1st XI to Fleckney Road and to the Kibworth Village.

“We have all enjoyed hosting the 2nd XI over the last few years and will be proud to stage this One Day Cup fixture in August. We all look forward to continuing and developing the relationship between our two clubs.”

Leicestershire, who will be buoyed by the overseas additions of Ajinkya Rahane and Wiaan Mulder, will be aiming to build on the progress they made in last year’s One Day Cup, where they reached the quarter-final stage for the first time in 14 years.

2023 Members will be granted access to the fixture as normal via their Membership card.
