Lancashire Lightning | One Day Cup Match Preview - 11/08/2023

Leicestershire are back on the road in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, heading to Emirates Old Trafford to take on Lancashire Lighting.

The Foxes fell to their first defeat of the competition at the hands of Notts Outlaws on Tuesday, but are bidding to maintain their 100% record away from home.

Lightning earned a comprehensive win over Kent last time out, as Josh Bohannon’s century and Jake Blatherwick’s four-wicket-haul secured a resounding 125-run victory at Blackpool.

Last Time We Met:

The previous meeting in 2019, also at Old Trafford, was a day the Foxes will be in no hurry to relive.

A home attack comprising the likes of James Anderson, Saqib Mahmood, Matt Parkinson and Glenn Maxwell dismissed the Foxes for just 80, as Lancs took victory by nine wickets with 31 overs to spare.

In Focus:

Still in his debut season with the First Team, Josh Hull has already caught the eye of many.

A 6ft 7’ giant, the left-hander offers great variety to the Foxes’ attack, combining the pace and bounce generated from his stature with unerring accuracy when targeting the stumps.

His career-best 4/43 on Tuesday has left him sitting joint-fourth for wickets taken so far in the comp, with six poles at 19.83.

Opposition Player To Watch:

Talking of exciting young cricketers, George Bell is a man to watch closely in this competition.

Just 20-years-old, the promising ‘keeper-batter has a heigh ceiling - and has already shown his credentials in senior cricket for the Red Rose.

Opening the batting in Wednesday’s win over Kent, Bell scored a vital 71, putting on 112 with Bohannon for the second wicket. He’s a player the Foxes could do with unsettling early.

Squad:

The Foxes name the same 13-man squad for the fourth game in a row.

Leicestershire Foxes: Ackermann, Budinger, Evans, Hill*, Hull, Handscomb+, Kimber, Mulder, Patel, Ramji, Scriven, Walker, Wright.
