Leicestershire County Cricket Club is proud to announce that that we have signed the Muslim Athlete Pledge to further demonstrate our commitment to equality and diversity for all.
Signing the pledge cements our commitment to recognising the needs of Muslim cricketers, fans and staff within the game, and is an important part of our wider focus on delivering equality, diversity and inclusion at all levels of cricket in Leicestershire.
Nujum Sports worked with Leicestershire in late 2022 to lead an educational workshop with coaches and first team players around dressing room culture “ one of the focuses of the game-wide EDI Action Plan to improve practice and fight discrimination in cricket, which is being led by the ECB.
Nujum Sports Muslim Athlete Charter offers an accreditation standard that Leicestershire CCC is now working towards, strengthening our zero-tolerance stance towards any form of discrimination.
Namita Patel, Community & EDI Director at Leicestershire CCC said:
“Working with Nujum Sports last year paved this continuation for us as a club to understand faiths and culture, and to improve experiences for both players and supporters both on and off the pitch.
“We recognise the importance of being an inclusive Club, and Leicestershire CCC’s pledge to the Muslim Athletes Charter is a positive step on our journey.â€
Ebadur Rahman, CEO and Founder of Nujum Sports, commented:
“By signing the pledge, Leicestershire CCC is joining a positive movement of solidarity, equality, and recognition of the contribution Muslims make in their respective clubs and teams.
“Nujum is here to support professional clubs and their players and contribute positively to their equality and diversity agenda. We are here to help them aspire to be even more inclusive and build on the passion and love we have for our respective clubs, players, and fans.â€
Leicestershire County Cricket Club launched its own EDI Action Plan in 2022 and published an inaugural Annual EDI Report earlier this year, outlining a vision and commitment to improving practice across the game and the communities we serve.
