Leicestershire County Cricket Club is proud to announce a new collaboration with Leicestershire Police to raise awareness of County Lines and help protect young people from exploitation.
The initiative will focus on increasing understanding of County Lines and the risks it presents, supporting young players to recognise the signs of exploitation, and educating parents, coaches and children. It will also highlight where people can access help and support, ensuring that the wider community feels informed and equipped to respond.
County Lines is a form of criminal exploitation where gangs coerce, persuade or force children and young people to transport drugs, money or weapons, often moving them from cities into rural towns and communities. It is a serious crime and a form of child abuse. Perpetrators use sophisticated and evolving techniques to groom young people, distancing themselves from the risks while exposing children to significant harm.
Leicestershire CCC is committed to safeguarding young people across its Pathway programmes and the wider community. By encouraging feedback and creating a culture of listening, the Club ensures that children and young people feel safe, supported and empowered to speak up.
Helen Fletcher, County Safeguarding Officer of Leicestershire CCC, said:
"As a club at the heart of the community, we have a responsibility to help protect young people from exploitation. By working alongside Leicestershire Police, we aim to increase awareness of County Lines, provide education and support, and ensure our communities know how to recognise the signs of exploitation."
DI James White of Leicestershire Police added:
"This collaboration is vital in tackling County Lines and safeguarding young people. We are pleased to be working with Leicestershire CCC to spread awareness and ensure communities know how to access the help and support available."
Through this collaboration, Leicestershire CCC and Leicestershire Police aim to strengthen awareness across the county, helping families, coaches, and communities to protect young people and prevent exploitation.
