Leicestershire CCC To Host Further Five Years Of International Cricket

Leicestershire CCC will host international cricket for a further five years between 2025 and 2031, after the England & Wales Cricket Board confirmed major match venues for England Men’s and England Women’s international matches over the seven-year period.

Uptonsteel County Ground will stage five white-ball fixtures for England Women (2025, 2026, 2028, 2029, 2031), building on the impressive reputation the ground has gained in recent years.

Grace Road has become a fan favourite for hosting Women’s International cricket, having successfully been a host venue for the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017, as well as the Women’s Ashes in 2019, while Heather Knight’s England side will make their seventh consecutive annual trip to Leicester for a One Day International with Sri Lanka in September.

LCCC’s home will also host the final dress rehearsal ahead of this summer’s hotly anticipated Ashes series, with England Women ‘A’ and Australia competing in a multi-day match starting on Thursday (15 June).

Leicestershire CCC CEO Sean Jarvis said: “We are thrilled to be hosting Women’s International cricket at Uptonsteel County Ground for another five years.

“Leicestershire has become synonymous with staging elite-level Women’s cricket in the past decade and we have seen the incredible influence the fixtures have had on growing the game in communities across our county.”

The fixtures will further buoy the rise of Women’s cricket in Leicestershire, which has seen a 200% increase in clubs hosting women’s sections, and a 167% increase in girls’ sections, across the county in the past two years.

Leicestershire’s Women have also featured more prominently at Uptonsteel County Ground in that period, winning their regional T20 Finals Day during a maiden appearance at the ground in May 2022, while they marked a significant milestone last week “ playing at Grace Road on the same day as the Men’s team for the first time.
