Leicestershire County Cricket Club can today confirm additional updates to its Board of Directors.
Iain Sutcliffe, who was appointed to the Board to provide strategic support as Chair of the Club’s Cricket Pillar in March 2022, has stepped down from his role as Director ahead of an international move.
The left-handed opening batsman and spin bowler enjoyed a successful playing spell as part of the Leicestershire line-up during a seven-year tenure between 1995 and 2002, achieving a career-highest innings of 203 for the Foxes against Glamorgan.
The current Deputy Head of Wellington College in Berkshire, Sutcliffe vacates the role in preparation of relocating to India this summer as the Head of Senior School at the new Wellington College International in Pune.
He will continue to support and promote Leicestershire CCC in an overseas ambassadorial role in India by helping to develop closer links with local cricket teams and player development pathways there.
Iain Sutcliffe said: “It has been a great privilege to serve on the Board of Leicestershire CCC.
“I am looking forward to supporting the Club in the future in an ambassadorial role as I relocate to India. I would like to wish the Club the very best for the future as they look to deliver on their ambitious and exciting strategic vision moving forward.â€
Assuming the open position to ensure seamless succession planning and with immediate effect, Matt Boyce has this week accepted a role on the Leicestershire CCC Board on a casual basis supporting Director of Cricket Claude Henderson and chairing our Cricket Pillar.
Boyce enjoyed a lengthy career in the professional setup at Leicestershire CCC, playing for the Club from 2006 until 2015 where he made an appearance in 226 games across all three formats. The top-order batsman amassed over 7,000 runs during his time at Grace Road, while his exceptional fielding in Leicestershire’s 2011 T20 final against Somerset saw him take four catches on the midwicket boundary to see the Foxes through to their historic win.
Commenting on his appointment, Matt Boyce said: “I have had a close affinity with the club since the age of 10 “ having been a member, player, board advisor and sponsor.
“Leicestershire CCC has ambitious plans both on and off the field and I forward to working with the staff and other board members to deliver its strategy, ensuring we have a cricket club both the city and county can be proud of.â€
The news follows on from earlier Board updates as a result of Leicestershire’s AGM last month where:
· Jack Birkenshaw MBE was re-elected as Club President for a further two-year term.
· Steve Kind was re-elected as a Director and Cash Pillar Chair where he has provided financial leadership and support since joining the Club’s Board in 2018.
· John Thorpe, was elected as a Director after serving a previous term on the LCCC Board as a Director from 2020 until 2021.
· Russell Spiers retired from the Organisation Director role having completed his most recent term of office.
