Leicestershire County Cricket Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David Collier OBE, a hugely influential figure in the Club’s history and one of the most significant administrators in modern English cricket.
David served as Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club from 1997, overseeing one of the most successful and transformative periods in the Club’s history. During his tenure, Leicestershire enjoyed unprecedented success on and off the field, that cemented the Club’s place among the leading sides in the country.
Under David’s leadership, the Club also successfully hosted India during the 1999 Cricket World Cup, a landmark occasion that showcased Leicestershire on the global stage. Away from the boundary rope, he delivered strong governance and financial stewardship, recording an above-budget financial performance and an 8% increase in Club membership a testament to his strategic vision and commitment to long-term sustainability.
Before and after his time at Leicestershire, David also held Chief Executive roles at Gloucestershire and Nottinghamshire, further underlining his standing and reputation within the county game.
In 2004, David was appointed Chief Executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, a role he held for a decade. His leadership at the ECB helped shape English cricket through a period of significant change, growth, and modernisation, leaving a lasting legacy at both domestic and international levels.
David’s contribution to cricket was immense, and his impact will be felt across the game for generations to come. He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements, but also for his passion, integrity, and dedication to cricket at every level.
Everyone at Leicestershire County Cricket Club sends their deepest condolences to David’s family, friends, and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.
