Leicestershire Foxes name Ben Green as Vitality Blast Captain for 2026

Ben Green has been appointed Leicestershire Foxes’ captain for the 2026 Vitality Blast, as the club looks to build momentum in white-ball cricket.

The 28-year-old will take on the responsibility after 2025 T20 Captain, Louis Kimber, departed the club at the end of the 2025 season.

Green joined the Foxes on a permanent basis ahead of the 2026 season following loan spells with the club in 2024 and 2025, during which he quickly established himself as a respected figure within the squad. During the latter, playing a vital part in the Foxes’ push for promotion and ultimately, silverware. While he is yet to represent the Foxes in white-ball cricket, his leadership qualities and extensive experience in the shortest formats made him the standout candidate for the role.

The 28-year-old all-rounder brings a strong T20 pedigree to the position, having played 84 Vitality Blast matches for Somerset. Across those appearances, Green has scored 765 runs at a strike rate of 138.83, while also taking 100 wickets, averaging 21.68 with the ball and maintaining an economy rate of 9.36.

Green will also be bringing a wealth of experience from the latter stages of the competition, having been involved with Somerset in Vitality Blast Finals in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Picking up winner’s medals in both 2023 and 2025.

Green has also featured in The Hundred for Welsh Fire in 2023, adding further experience of high-pressure white-ball environments.

Ben Green said: “It’s a huge honour to be named captain of the Foxes for the Vitality Blast. I’ve loved my time at the club over the past couple of seasons and I’m delighted to be leading the team going into 2026.

We’ve got a talented group and a clear direction as a club. My aim is to lead from the front, play positive cricket and help shape a team that our supporters are proud to watch.”

Head Coach Afonso Thomas said: “Ben is someone who naturally commands respect. He’s calm, thoughtful and competitive, and those are qualities you want in a T20 captain. There is also no denying that the experience he has in this competition is only going to help us.

Although he hasn’t yet played white-ball cricket for us, his experience in the Blast and The Hundred, combined with the influence he’s already had around the group, made him a very strong choice.”

Green will take charge of the Foxes for the 2026 Vitality Blast campaign as Leicestershire aim to take the next step in domestic T20 cricket, with the Foxes getting their 2026 Vitality Blast campaign underway on Friday the 22nd May at Uptonsteel Grace Road against Worcestershire Rapids.
