Leicestershire CCC is delighted to confirm the signing of experienced seamer Josh Davey from Somerset ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The Scotland international has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract, joining the Foxes from 1 November.
Davey “ who had a brief loan stint with Leicestershire during the 2023 season “ brings a distinguished bowling prowess to Uptonsteel County Ground, having amassed 458 wickets in his career to date.
A consistent performer across formats, the 35-year-old has claimed 214 victims at an average of 24.25 in the first-class arena, while he has added 128 wickets at 25.9 and 116 wickets at 21.77 in List A and T20 cricket respectively.
Davey’s returns were headlined by career-best figures of 6/28 while playing against Afghanistan for Scotland in 2015, with the Aberdeen-born star representing his country on 62 occasions in limited-overs action.
His decorated CV has seen him feature for Scotland at two ICC T20 World Cups, while Davey has also collected 2019 One Day Cup and 2023 Vitality Blast winners’ medals during his tenure at Taunton.
A capable and adaptable batter, Davey has scored in excess of 3,500 runs across his career. His versatility has best been demonstrated this summer, stepping up as a red-ball opener for Somerset in Division One.
Commenting on his decision to join Leicestershire, Davey said: “I spoke to Fons [Alfonso Thomas] and Claude [Henderson], and it was clear they’ve got a collective vision for elevating the club to the next level. It’s going to be a very exciting place to be over the next three years.
“I think it's starting to shape into a competitive team. There’s a lot of talent in the squad and I hope to supplement that with the experience I've gained across all three formats over the last 15 years.
“I met a lot of the guys during my loan here in 2023, and I loved the environment. Since then, the likes of Ben Green, Lewis Goldsworthy and Josh Thomas have all been and they have only come back saying positive things, which obviously helped steer my decision.
“Hopefully I can help to establish Leicestershire in the first division and look to push for some silverware. I believe we can become a real force in all three competitions over the next few years.â€
Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “Josh is a high-calibre operator that will offer a lot to the team in both red-ball and white-ball cricket.
“We know his character well and have no doubt he will be a great fit for Leicestershire. As a senior player with extensive Division One experience, his voice and all-round abilities will be a great addition to our changing room.â€
Davey becomes Leicestershire’s second signing ahead of the 2026 campaign, following the announcement of former Yorkshire captain Jonny Tattersall earlier on Tuesday.
