Leicestershire CCC can today announce the signing of Hampshire all-rounder Ian Holland on loan until the end of the 2024 season.
The 33-year-old joins the Foxes for all three formats and is in line to make his debut on Friday against Glamorgan at Uptonsteel County Ground.
With 3,608 runs and 174 career wickets to his name since his debut in 2016, Holland adds a wealth of experience to Leicestershire’s ranks.
Wisconsin-born, Holland’s first English summer arrived in 2017, where he returned an admirable average of 33.28 with the bat, while taking 19 wickets at just 18.47.
The all-rounder boasts a first-class high of 146 not out, made opening the batting against Middlesex in 2021, while the right-armer took career-best figures of 6/60 against Surrey in the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020.
The American international is also an adept white-ball operator, highlighted by his performances in Hampshire’s run to last summer’s Metro Bank One Day Cup final. He took 18 wickets at 18.83 before tasting defeat to Leicestershire at Trent Bridge.
Holland has featured on 21 occasions for his country, scoring 415 runs and taking 29 wickets since his debut in 2019.
Discussing his move to Uptonsteel County Ground, Holland said: “I’m very excited to come to Leicestershire. The opportunity to play with a young and upcoming squad appealed to me and I’m looking forward to adding value as a player and as a person.
“Chatting to Claude (Henderson) and Fonz (Alfonso Thomas) before making the move, I can sense the journey that the Club is on and the growth that is taking place. I’m really excited to be a part of that and hopefully we can keep building.â€
Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “We’re delighted to add someone of Ian’s experience to our squad for the rest of the season.
“Alfonso worked with Ian during his time at Hampshire and was very complimentary of both his skillset and his character. He will be a huge asset to our changing room.â€
Holland joins a raft of familiar faces at Uptonsteel County Ground, having played under former coach Alonso Thomas at Hampshire, and alongside teammates Scott Currie, Tom Scriven and Matt Salisbury during his time in Southampton. Starting out in Australia, he also played with overseas duo Peter Handscomb and Marcus Harris at Victoria.
