Leicestershire CCC can today announce all-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy has signed on loan from Somerset for the duration of the Vitality Blast.
The 23-year-old joins the Foxes immediately, and is added to the squad for tonight’s opening round fixture against Yorkshire Vikings at Uptonsteel County Ground.
Commonly deployed as a bowling all-rounder in T20 cricket, Goldsworthy will add depth to Leicestershire’s ranks in the absence of fellow left-arm spinner Liam Trevaskis, who is set to miss the start of the campaign with a back injury.
The former England Under 19 international has featured on 25 occasions in T20 cricket for Somerset since his debut in 2020, taking 23 wickets at an average of 21.4 while conceding his runs at 7.96 per over.
A versatile batter - with both first-class and List A hundreds - Goldsworthy has floated across the top, middle, and late order for Somerset in the shorter format, scoring 257 runs at a shade under 20 and striking at 116.81.
Discussing the loan switch to Uptonsteel County Ground, Goldsworthy said: “The chance to come and play for Leicestershire is very exciting. As soon as I got the call, I was straight in the car.
“I feel at home already. I spoke to Ben Green, who only had good things to say about the Club and the squad here, so I’m looking forward to getting going with a good group of lads.
“The team played some exceptionally good cricket in the 50-over format last year and I think there’s a lot of talented young players kicking on. Hopefully we can start well and carry that momentum forward.â€
Head Coach, Alfonso Thomas, said: “Lewis is a tenacious, three-dimensional cricketer, who will add quality and flexibility to our squad. He will bring a lot of value to our side, particularly in Liam’s (Trevaskis) absence.â€
Leicestershire kick off their Vitality Blast campaign this evening against Yorkshire Vikings, as they hunt a record-breaking fourth T20 trophy.
