Lewis Hill Signs New Long-Term Contract Until 2025

Leicestershire CCC is thrilled to announce captain Lewis Hill has signed a new long-term contract with the Club to 2025.

The homegrown batsman has become an integral part of the Foxes squad across all three formats in recent seasons and has taken on the captaincy in both Championship cricket and the One Day Cup.

The news follows an impressive start to the season for the 32-year-old. After leading the side to a historic opening round victory at Yorkshire, Hill hit his career-best 162 not out against Derbyshire the week after, passing 3,000 first-class runs in the process.

Having been a product of the Leicestershire Academy system, Hill made an immediate impact in the first team, recording a County Championship century against Surrey during just his second first-class appearance for the Club in 2015.

His best season for the Foxes arrived in 2021, finishing the campaign with 1,457 runs across all three formats, including a personal-best haul of five centuries.

In total, Hill has registered 5,188 runs for the Club, with 2,467 of those arising since the beginning of the 2021 season, as the Leicester-born batsman began to hit top form.

Discussing the extension, Hill said: “It’s fantastic to continue my journey with Leicestershire. The last couple of years have been great for me individually and I can’t wait to build on those foundations with this group.

“Looking at our squad and what people are doing around the ground, we seem to be going places and it’s great to be onboard with that. Hopefully as a team we can bring some silverware and success to Grace Road in the next couple of years.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, added: “Lewis has been a phenomenal servant to Leicestershire over the past decade and exemplifies the qualities we are looking for at the Club.

“He is a popular figure in the changing room and has taken to the captaincy perfectly. There are really positive signs for us in the years to come and Lewis will be a major part of that.”
