Hannah Toyne’s first Foxes century helped Leicestershire Under-15s to a convincing 53-run victory over Derbyshire on Thursday afternoon.
The 15-year-old struck 113 from 87 balls - including 17 fours and one six - to help her side begin the U15 County One Day Cup in emphatic fashion.
Arriving at the crease in just the third over, Toyne wasted little time in getting going, striking her second and fifth balls to the ropes.
The right-hander took just 37 deliveries to reach her half-century, and had done much of the heavy lifting “ 60 runs off 40 balls “ when the second wicket century stand arose after an hour’s batting with opener Sienna Patel.
Toyne continued to motor as the innings advanced, helping herself to 12 off Esme Walker in the 23rd over en route to her maiden Leicestershire ton.
It came off only 71 balls (15x4, 1x6), as she found the ropes once again, this time from Ava Ford’s bowling, to bring up three figures. Her knock, supported by skipper Patel’s 45 helped the Foxes to 226 for six from their 40 overs.
Toyne’s day got even better when her left-arm wrist spin accounted for Anika Verma, trapped in front for 16, while Rihanna Underwood (8-0-31-4) and Ellie Rowley (6-0-13-3) also helped induce a home collapse from 125 for two to 173 all out. Leicestershire winners by 53 runs.
The young Foxes return to One Day Cup action on Tuesday 20 May against Nottinghamshire at Kibworth.
