Leicestershire have the chance to register back-to-back wins in the Metro Bank One Day Cup when they head to the Utilita Bowl to face Hampshire on Friday.
It follows the Foxes’ thumping 124-run victory over Notts Outlaws on Wednesday, one which lifted Alfonso Thomas’ side into third in Group A.
Hampshire sit a place below, having been defeated by five wickets at the hands of Worcestershire last time out.
Squad:
Once again, the Foxes name an unchanged 13-strong squad. Lewis Hill and Sam Wood are the two looking to earn a spot in the XI.
Leicestershire Foxes: Budinger, Cox+, A Green, Handscomb*, Hill, Holland, Masood, Mike, Patel, Scriven, Trevaskis, Wood, Wright.
Last Time We Met:
The Foxes have enjoyed some classics against Hampshire in the past couple of seasons, none more so than 2023’s One Day Cup final. Last year’s meeting, a quarter-final clash at Uptonsteel County Ground, was equally as riveting.
Bowling first, Leicestershire restricted the visitors to 290 for eight thanks to Tom Scriven’s (3/61) shrewd display. Nick Gubbins making an excellent 136 before being bowled by Chris Wright.
Lewis Hill’s departure saw the Foxes slip to 30 for three in reply, but a 128-run stand between Ajinkya Rahane (70) and Peter Handscomb (74) got the side back on track before Liam Trevaskis (60 not out) saw Leicestershire home by three wickets to reach the semi-final stage.
Decisive Duel:
The One Day Cup is renowned for giving pivotal First Team match-time to some of the game’s most promising youngsters. This summer’s competition is seeing the stocks of Leicestershire’s Alex Green and Hampshire’s Eddie Jack rise rapidly.
Green is the leading wicket-taker with 11 at just 10.54 from three innings so far, generating serious pace and bounce from his 6ft 6†stature. The 18-year-old already has two five-fers to his name this campaign, and will pose a huge threat during the middle over phase again on Friday.
Like Green, 19-year-old Jack is leading the way for his county with six wickets at 24.5 so far. An England Under-19 regular, the right-arm seamer now has 25 wickets in List A cricket and presents an alarming threat with new ball in-hand.
