Match Preview | One Day Cup | Notts Outlaws | 13 August 2025

Grab your buckets hats, because outground cricket returns on Wednesday, as Leicestershire make their annual trip to Kibworth Cricket Club for round three of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

It’ll be a third 50-over visit to Fleckney Road in as many seasons for the Foxes, with this year’s iteration kicking off their home campaign in the form of an East Midlands Derby against neighbours Notts Outlaws.

Alfonso Thomas’ side will be looking to respond to Sunday’s narrow defeat to Gloucestershire, while the Outlaws are also seeking a second win, having won one, lost one and tied one game so far.

Squad:

The 13-strong squad remains unchanged, with Ben Mike and Sam Wood hoping to force their way into the XI.

Leicestershire Foxes: Budinger, Cox+, A Green, Handscomb*, Hill, Holland, Masood, Mike, Patel, Scriven, Trevaskis, Wood, Wright.

Last Time We Met:

Leicestershire “ the then-defending champions - won a drama-filled contest by 15 runs (DLS) in 2024’s opener at Uptonsteel County Ground. Batting first, the Foxes posted a huge 369 for six after impressive contributions from Lewis Hill (81), Sol Budinger (75) and the debuting Ajinkya Rahane (71).

Notts reached 50 without loss at the end of the Powerplay before a heavy shower arrived. When conditions improved, the revised target was adjusted to 105 from 14 overs.

Needing 55 from 23 balls, the visitors added to the drama by retiring both Ben Slater and debutant Freddie McCann in favour of big-hitters Jack Haynes and Tom Moores.

Haynes fell first ball - leg before to Tom Scriven - immediately followed by new batter Lyndon James, caught on the mid-wicket boundary. Ben Mike and Scriven struck in the two overs which followed as the Foxes won by 15 runs on DLS.

Decisive Duel:

The comparative Powerplays with the bat in Bristol arguably proved a deciding factor. With that in mind, the fortunes of Sol Budinger and Ben Slater could be crucial on Wednesday.

Budinger enjoys playing at Kibworth, having scored an explosive 70 on Fleckney Road last summer to back up his maiden List A century against Essex there the year before. His List A average for the Foxes is north of 40 with a strike rate of 121.16. If he can channel that kind of form, he could cash in again at what’s proven a happy-hunting ground.

Like Budinger, Slater will also be facing his former side, having enjoyed a short loan spell at Uptonsteel County Ground in 2020. The left-hander has more than 3,000 List A career runs at a heathy average of 52.18. His wicket will be a prized one on Wednesday.
