Match Preview | T20 Blast | Worcestershire Rapids | 13 July 2025

Leicestershire are hunting back-to-back victories and a Blast double over the Rapids, as Alfonso Thomas’ side head to New Road on Sunday.

The Foxes’ quarter-final quest was reinvigorated by Thursday’s commanding performance at home to Northamptonshire, securing a sixth victory of the campaign in a tight North Group.

Worcestershire sit seventh, two spots behind Leicestershire, as they look to respond to the disappointment of Friday night’s defeat to rivals Bears.

Squad:

One change to the squad, as Matt Salisbury drops out of the party to travel to New Road.

Leicestershire Foxes: Ahmed, Budinger, Cox+, Hill, Hull, Kimber*, Masood, Patel, Scriven, Thomas, van Beek, Wood, Walker.

Famous Fixture:

Rewinding to 2017 and a stunning display of T20 bowling from Australian international Clint McKay. The Foxes’ skipper took the now-joint second-best figures for the Club with five for 11 from his four overs, including a maiden.

After dismissing Joe Clarke for a duck in the opening over, McKay never looked back. Despite a fifty for current Foxes ‘keeper Ben Cox, Leicestershire kept the hosts to 148/8, led by McKay’s maiden T20 five-fer.

In response, Luke Ronchi (27) and Cameron Delport (23) raced out of the traps before Colin Ackermann’s unbeaten 47 and a quickfire 31* off 16 balls from Tom Wells saw the side home by five wickets with nine balls to spare.

Decisive Duel:

The battle of the overseas all-rounders could well determine the outcome of Sunday’s contest, as Logan van Beek faces off against Ben Dwarshuis.

Netherlands international van Beek “ once of Worcestershire “ has proven an incredibly shrewd signing for the Foxes across both formats so far. In T20 cricket, he’s picked up 19 wickets at 19.63, often bowling the notoriously difficult Powerplay and death overs, while he’s contributed 147 runs at 36.75 as a solid middle-lower order hitter.

Dwarshuis is equally as dangerous. Now into his second spell with the Rapids, the Australian has snared 17 wickets at 22.76 and scored 226 runs at 45.2, striking at a healthy 167.4. Like van Beek, he can take the game away from opponents with both bat and ball in the blink of an eye.
