Match Preview | T20 Blast | Worcestershire Rapids | 15 June 2025

Leicestershire have an immediate opportunity to get back on the horse after Saturday’s defeat at Edgbaston, battling Worcestershire Rapids on home turf as part of an engrossing T20 double-header day.

The Foxes have won two from two at Uptonsteel County Ground so far this campaign and will be relying on the fervent Foxes fans to spur them to a third home win on the spin on Sunday afternoon.

Worcestershire have two victories and three defeats from their first five. Like Leicestershire, they enter Sunday’s clash after a seven-wicket loss, having been beaten by Lancashire last time out.

Squad:

Another big boost for the Foxes, as Ben Mike makes his return from a hamstring injury. The big-hitting all-rounder enters the 14 in place of Sam Wood.

Leicestershire Foxes: Ahmed, Budinger, Cox+, Hill, Kimber*, Masood, Mike, Patel, Salisbury, Scriven, Swindells, Trevaskis, van Beek, Walker.

Famous Fixture:

If you’re looking for a nail-biter, cast your mind back no further than last summer, where Leicestershire edged a four-run victory on Grace Road.

Rishi Patel’s rich vein of form at the start of the 2024 Blast saw him top score with 48 “ while Ben Mike clubbed 24 not out from just 11 balls “ to help the Foxes reach 176 for eight.

The Rapids found themselves well perched on 105 for one after 12 overs in response but were tied down by spin duo Rehan Ahmed (4-0-27-2) and debutant Lewis Goldsworthy (4-0-18-1), before Josh Hull sealed victory with a nerveless final over.

Decisive Duel:

Ben Cox will face off against his former county having just passed a significant personal milestone. The Foxes ‘keeper tallied 700 career dismissals behind the stumps on Saturday, a count that started as a 17-year-old in 2009.

His sharp glovework is complemented by the solid middle-order firepower he provides. The 2018 Blast winner has 2,705 runs at an average of 26 in T20 cricket, possessing the calmest of heads to back up Leicestershire’s explosive top order.

Worcestershire ‘keeper Gareth Roderick’s stats are lining up similarly so far this campaign. He’s averaging 26.16 with the bat, while he’s completed five catches and one stumping behind the wickets, a record matched by Cox.

Tickets:

Entry to both matches on Sunday is granted via a single ticket, which can be purchased ONLINE, starting from just £7. Tickets on the gate can also be purchased via the Curzon Road entrance on the day.
