Match Preview | T20 Blast | Yorkshire | 8 June 2025

After successive wins at the end of the week, Leicestershire will be hunting a third victory in a row when they take on Yorkshire at Headingley on Sunday.

The Foxes edged a nail-biter against Durham on Friday, securing a six-run success thanks to Matt Salisbury’s nerveless final over. It leaves Alfonso Thomas’ side third in the North Group, sitting on 12 points after four matches.

By contrast, Yorkshire have had an underwhelming start, losing all three games “ including a six-wicket defeat to the Bears on Friday - to prop up the table.

Squad:

Alfonso Thomas has named the same 14-strong squad which defeated Durham on Friday evening. Rehan Ahmed is away with England’s IT20 squad, while Ben Mike is nearing a return to fitness but isn’t available for selection on Sunday.

Leicestershire Foxes: Budinger, Cox+, A Green, Hill, Kimber*, Masood, Patel, Salisbury, Scriven, Swindells, Trevaskis, van Beek, Walker, Wood.

Famous Fixture:

After a heavy defeat in front of the Sky cameras the day before, Leicestershire produced an emphatic response at the beginning of the 2022 Vitality Blast by earning a 31-run win at Headingley.

At 51 for four, the Foxes’ innings was in the balance, but a 109-run partnership in just 9.4 overs between Colin Ackermann (56) and Rishi Patel (57) propelled the side to 188 for seven at halfway.

Ben Mike (4-0-16-3) and Naveen (4-0-34-4) starred with the ball amid a phenomenal display in the field, as a batting lineup containing the likes of Adam Lyth, Dawid Malan, Joe Root and Harry Brook were restricted to 157.

Decisive Duel:

It was spin to win on Leicestershire's last Blast away trip, and the same modus operandi could prove decisive again as Liam Trevaskis locks horns with Dom Bess.

An all-rounder adding firepower with bat, ball, and in the field, Trevaskis is making up for lost time after missing the entirety of the T20 summer with a back injury last term. He’s averaging 36 with the blade “ the most of any Leicestershire batter “ while his three wickets have come at 23.66, costing just 5.46 per over.

Bess has been equally as bright in a struggling Yorkshire side. The England international is averaging 25.5 with the bat and tops the wicket-taking charts for his county with five at an average of 16.
