Notts Take Victory In SET20 Derby

Nottinghamshire were the visitors to the Uptonsteel County Ground for Leicestershire’s final home game in their 2023 SET campaign. Nottinghamshire gaining a comfortable victory, winning by 7 wickets.

Rehan Ahmed skippered Leicestershire, won the toss, and chose to bat. Louis Kimber returned to the Leicestershire side following a recent spell on the sidelines through injury, and was deployed as wicket keeper.

It was a very cold morning with some 25 spectators in attendance, their attire would not have looked out of place on an East Coast seafront, combating a very chill wind blowing in off the North Sea.

Leicestershire registered 149-9 from their allotted 20 overs. Lewis Hill (39) 28b was top scorer for the Foxes. Rehan Ahmed (31) 27b the only other batter to pass 20 runs in the innings. Ahmed having faced a number of deliveries from his 15-year-old younger brother, Farhan. James Hayes was the leading wicket taker for Notts with 4-35 from 4 overs. All nine of the Leicestershire batters dismissed out caught.

Nottinghamshire lost two early wickets in reply, Josh Hull and Ed Barnes bowling Ben Martindale (13) 6b, and Ben Slater (10) 11b respectively. Nottinghamshire on 27-2 from 3.3 overs. That was as good as it got for County.

Haseeb Hamed and Liam Patterson- White sharing a 94 run partnership that all but saw the Robin Hood County over the line. The two posted a 50 partnership (35b), the score on 77-2 from 9.2 overs. Patterson-White went to his 50 (4x4/3x6) 28b, when the score reached 121-2 from 14.1 overs.

Patterson-White was then bowled by the next delivery he received, from Hull. Hameed and Patterson-White adding 94 (64b) for the 3rd wicket. Nottinghamshire 121-3 from 14.2 overs, a further 29 runs required for victory.

Hameed went to his 50 (7x4) 41b from the final delivery of the 15th over. Notts Skipper, Hameed, and Sim King knocked off the remaining runs required for victory, Nottinghamshire 153-3. reaching their target after 18.2 overs, and winning by 7 wickets. Hammed (61*) 51b, King (16*) 13b.

Hull picked up 2-24 for the Foxes from 4 overs. Barnes the other wicket taker with 1-25 from 2 overs. Also, from a statistical angle, no byes recorded against ‘Kimber the Keeper’.
