Another superb knock from Rishi Patel, as well as impressive showings from Tom Scriven and Roman Walker, headlined performances from Leicestershire’s overseas contingent over the weekend.
Patel top scored for Bayswater CC with 71 (122b) on day one of their two-day clash with Box Hill in Victoria, backing up his centuries in 45-over cricket last month.
Batting at three, Scriven formed part of a strong top order display for Croydon CC before a middle -late order collapse. The all-rounder made 34 from 56 deliveries either side of half-centuries from captain Jack Conroy and Steve Wright.
With Croydon dismissed for 232 towards the close, Scriven then took the new ball “ picking up the early wicket of Nagendra Vedula from his sole over (1-0-2-1). The 26-year-old has made an excellent start with the red ball, claiming his wickets at an average of just 8.5 and yielding just 2.04 runs per over.
After a washout the previous weekend, Walker helped Kingston Hawthorn to back-to-back T20 wins on Saturday. Based in Parkdale, Victoria, the Welshman played a key role in both victories “ batting at five and opening the bowling.
A cameo of 17 and returns of 4-0-28-1 helped the side to 21-run win over Northcote in game one, before picking up 2/25 from four overs and making nine to defeat Prahran by three wickets in his second outing of the day.
Louis Kimber engaged in a topsy-turvy T20 tussle with ex-Essex and new-Nottinghamshire man Daniel Sams. After being dismissed two balls into the innings for a duck by the Australian, Kimber got his revenge, having Sams caught by Seamus Meaker for 11.
Elsewhere, Ben Mike marked his debut for Janakpur Bolts in the Nepal Premier League with a win. The Academy graduate dismissed Scottish international Chris Sole en route to returns of 1/29. The Bolts currently sit second after five games, with Mike having to accept a watching role from the bench in the previous four matches.
In the Sheffield Shield, Peter Handscomb made 78 as Victoria succumbed to a narrow 23-run defeat to Queensland. The Australian has made a strong start to his domestic summer, averaging 47.80 from a dozen innings.
