Patel Hits Debut Century As Foxes Stars Begin Winter Down Under

Rishi Patel marked his club debut in Australia with a stunning 169, while Tom Scriven starred with bat and ball, as a quartet of Foxes began their winters Down Under.

Patel made an immediate impact for Bayswater CC, smashing 22 fours and three sixes as he scored 169 from 138 deliveries on his first appearance for the Victorian outfit.

The opener’s century helped his side to 304/4 from their 45 overs, before two catches in the field contributed to a 152-run win over Endeavour Hills.

Elsewhere, Tom Scriven made match-winning contributions with bat, ball, and in the field, as he started his stint in Melbourne with a three-wicket victory over Box Hill.

Turning out for Croydon CC, the all-rounder returned figures of 1/29 from eight overs, while he also claimed two catches and a run out, before top-scoring with 40 (33b) batting at number three.

Fellow all-rounders Ian Holland and Ben Mike also made their first appearances of the Australian summer over the weekend. Holland (8-4-10-1) produced an economical performance for Ringwood CC, while Mike (4-2-5-1) also kept things tight in his first spell for Northern District.

The quartet will be joined by Louis Kimber and Roman Walker in the coming weeks, with the pair set to feature for Sydney CC and Kingston Hawthorne CC respectively.

Back home before his return to Leicestershire next season, 2024 Cricketer of the Year Peter Handscomb has picked up exactly where he left off. The 33-year-old scored a hundred on his first Sheffield Shield appearance of the Australian summer, before hitting 64 during the first innings of Victoria’s 141-win over New South Wales last week.
