Patel Takes Three At End of Season Awards

Rishi Patel scooped a trio of awards on Thursday evening, as Leicestershire’s Men’s and Women’s sides came together with sponsors and supporters to toast an unforgettable 2023 season at Dinner With The Champions.

The Foxes opener took home the Livingston Cup for Batter of the Year after scoring more than 1,700 runs and becoming the first Leicestershire player to record a century in all three formats during the same year.

Patel’s outstanding performances also saw him earn Fans’ Player of the Year, as well as Players’ Player following a unanimous vote by his peers.

Leading wicket-taker Chris Wright, who topped the Club’s charts in both the County Championship and One Day Cup, won the Frank S Smith Cup for Bowler of the Year, while Sol Budinger picked up the Roger Goadby Trophy for his run-saving displays in the field.

Academy graduate Harry Swindells’ was presented with the John Josephs Cup for Best Individual Performance, awarded for his sensational 117 not out in the One Day Cup final, while 62 wickets for Tom Scriven saw the all-rounder named as Young Player of the Year.

The evening also celebrated the achievements of the Foxes’ Second Team and Women’s Team, who won the Second Eleven Championship and East of England Championship respectively.

Roman Walker was crowned Second XI Player of the Year after his 294 runs at 36.75 and 29 wickets at 13.03 fired Dips Patel’s side to the SEC title.

Rebecca Brooker, who averaged 45.33 in her debut season at the Club, scooped both Batter of the Year and Players’ Player, while leading wicket-taker Aimee Colquhoun won Bowler of the Year.

Another newcomer, Beth Wright, rounded off the Women’s winners after being selected by Head Coach Stephen Franklin as Coaches’ Player of the Year.

Congratulations to all of our award winners, and all three sides on a record-breaking year of success.
