Leicestershire star Peter Handscomb has become the latest inductee of the esteemed ‘Gold Fox’ club following an outstanding 14 months at Uptonsteel County Ground.
The Australian international was presented with his prestigious gold county cap by Club President; Jack Birkenshaw, and Director of Cricket; Claude Henderson, ahead of Friday’s Vitality Blast clash with Durham.
Leicestershire’s T20 skipper was surprised by his wife Sarah, and young son Jack, as well as his Foxes teammates and coaching staff, as he was honoured after the toss for his remarkable contributions to the Club both on and off the pitch.
Discussing the presentation, Handscomb said: “It’s been a special year and a half. I’ve felt so welcomed coming into this group, and I’ve been supported by everyone on and off the field, as well as all the Leicestershire fans.
“It’s been very nice to come over here, enjoy my cricket, and enjoy playing with such a special group of lads. We tasted success as a team last year with the One Day Cup and I’m really looking forward to making more memories with the Club in the coming seasons.â€
Handscomb arrived at Uptonsteel County Ground last April, initially on a six-game deal, making an instant impact by hitting a hundred in Leicestershire’s historic County Championship victory at Headingley.
The 33-year-old has been a run-machine for the Foxes, scoring 1,865 runs in all competitions at an average north of 50. He finished top of the run-charts in Leicestershire’s Metro Bank One Day Cup winning campaign last summer, while he also leads the way in red-ball cricket for the Club this season.
Handscomb joins teammates Lewis Hill, Chris Wright, Rehan Ahmed, Wiaan Mulder, and Rishi Patel as current Leicestershire players proudly sporting the ‘Gold Fox’.
