Peter Handscomb to miss the 2026 season with Leicestershire

Leicestershire County Cricket Club today confirms that Club Captain Peter Handscomb will not be part of the 2026 playing squad due to family commitments.

Handscomb, who had been due to return to Uptonsteel Grace Road for the upcoming campaign, has made the decision along with Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, that personal circumstances will prevent him from travelling to the UK for the season. Both the club and the player have mutually agreed that prioritising family at this time is the appropriate course of action.

Despite his absence on the field this summer, Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce that Handscomb will remain as Club Captain and has committed to extending his stay with the Foxes into the 2027 season.

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said:
“While we’re naturally disappointed that Pete cannot join us for the 2026 season, we fully support his decision to put his family first. He is an exceptional leader and an outstanding professional, and we are thrilled that he will remain Club Captain and continue his journey with us into 2027.”

Peter Handscomb added:
“It’s difficult to miss the season, but family must take priority. I’m grateful for the club’s understanding and support. I’m honoured to remain Club Captain and I’m excited to return in 2027. I’ll be following the lads closely and fully believe in what this group can achieve.”

Further updates regarding the 2026 squad and captaincy will be communicated in due course.
