Piepa Cleary Signs For Leicestershire Women

Leicestershire CCC is excited to announce the addition of Australian bowler Piepa Cleary for the East of England County Championship.

The 26-year-old, who holds a wealth of Big Bash experience, joins for this summer’s 45-over competition, and becomes Leicestershire Women’s maiden overseas player.

Cleary made her Foxes bow on Sunday during a seven-wicket win over Hertfordshire, impressing with figures of 9-2-25-1, as she formed an instantaneous new-ball partnership with Una Paramjothy.

The right-arm bowler has shown her white-ball pedigree during Australia’s premier T20 competition, taking 46 wickets at 25.89 for the Perth Scorchers, and was part of Perth's title-winning team in WBBL07.

In List A cricket, Cleary has claimed 71 wickets in as many matches, while she featured on eight occasions for the Welsh Fire during the inaugural season of The Hundred “ snaring six wickets.

The Perth-born bowler has also featured for Lancashire Women, Thunder and Lightning during her previous stints in England.

Speaking about Cleary’s arrival, Women’s Head Coach Stephen Franklin said: “It’s fantastic to secure someone of Piepa’s calibre to be around the girls and impart her knowledge of the game.

“She has fitted in seamlessly and we as a coaching team were very impressed by her bowling and fielding, as well as her attitude, on debut.”

Piepa will feature during Friday’s T20 double-header at Uptonsteel County Ground, as LCCC Women take on National Asian Cricket Council at 12pm, before the Men’s side take on Durham at 6:30pm.
