Rehan Ahmed Added To England Ashes Squad

Leicestershire CCC all-rounder Rehan Ahmed has been added to the England Men’s Test squad for the second LV= Insurance Men’s Ashes Test against Australia starting at Lord’s on Wednesday 28 June 2023.

The 18-year-old made his Test bow in the final Test against Pakistan in Karachi last winter, becoming the youngest ever player to take a five-wicket haul on debut.

Ahmed will be part of the Foxes’ T20 squad for this evening’s Vitality Blast fixture at home to Northamptonshire Steelbacks, before linking up with the rest of the England squad this weekend in London.

The teenager has been an ever-present in Leicestershire’s red-ball side this season, scoring 423 runs at 38.45 and taking six wickets in seven County Championship appearances.

LCCC Director of Cricket Claude Henderson commented: “Being selected for The Ashes is any English cricketers’ dream. We are extremely proud of Rehan and his development this season.

“He has shown his immense quality for Leicestershire and on the international stage in Pakistan last winter, and we wish him well with his latest involvement.

“Rehan’s selection is testament to the brilliant work our Academy and Pathway coaches have done in recent years and is justification for our desire to back him as one of the first names on the teamsheet this year.”
