Rehan Ahmed Earns England Call-Up For New Zealand IT20 Series

Leicestershire CCC all-rounder Rehan Ahmed has been selected for England Men’s Vitality IT20 Series against New Zealand which gets underway later this month.

The 19-year-old has been called up as part of a 15-player squad, led by Jos Buttler, with the series kicking off at Seat Unique Riverside on 30 August.

Academy graduate Ahmed made his T20 international bow earlier this year during the tour of Bangladesh, becoming the youngest England Men’s player to debut in the format.

The leg-spinner has 34 T20 wickets to his name in his short career so far, including 28 at an average of 27.64 for the Foxes in the Vitality Blast “ bested by return of 4/22 away at Durham last summer.

Ahmed has also shown his versatility with the bat, typically adding late innings firepower, while his T20 best score of 49 arose when opening the batting for Leicestershire against Northamptonshire Steelbacks in June.

England duty will follow Ahmed’s stint with Southern Brave in The Hundred, with the defending World Cup champions’ four IT20’s to run from 30 August “ 5 September, meaning the all-rounder is set to miss Leicestershire’s LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Gloucestershire.
