Rehan Ahmed Signs Leicestershire CCC Extension Until 2027

Leicestershire CCC is excited to announce Rehan Ahmed has signed a contract extension that sees the Academy graduate commit his future to the Club until the end of the 2027 season.

The teenager originally penned a deal until the end of the 2026 season in April 2022, and has now decided to extend his stay at Uptonsteel County Ground by a further year.

First selected as a 16-year-old, Ahmed has featured on 43 occasions for the Foxes in his blossoming career so far, scoring 905 runs and taking 48 wickets.

The 18-year-old has been a key contributor to Leicestershire’s strong LV= Insurance County Championship form in Division Two this term, scoring 423 runs at 38.45, including four half-centuries.

His precocious talent has also attracted the attention of the England selectors, with Ahmed becoming the youngest men’s player to debut across all three formats earlier this year.

The achievement followed his maiden international appearance in December 2022, during which the all-rounder became the youngest Test debutant to take a five-wicket haul, returning figures of 5/48 against Pakistan.

Ahmed’s selection came of the back of an impressive season for Leicestershire, claiming 19 wickets at an average of 20.14 in his first Vitality Blast campaign, before concluding the year with a maiden five-wicket haul and swashbuckling maiden century away at Derbyshire.

The England international, who received an Ashes call-up last month, has also been honoured with the award of his prestigious ‘Gold Fox’ county cap, presented at Headingley during Leicestershire’s win against Yorkshire in April.

Upon extending his contract, Ahmed told Foxes TV: “I’m delighted to sign another year on top of my current deal. Leicestershire is a very family-like club and I think it’s the best place for my development.

“I started my professional career here. To pick me and back me at such a young age, it was unbelievable. I want to repay that faith.

“If I continue to work hard, I’ll get opportunities and have a great role in the coming years, so I want to stay as long as possible.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, added: “Rehan extending his stay is fantastic news and a massive boost for the whole Club.

“He brings huge exuberance every time he pulls on a Leicestershire shirt, and that positive energy translates to his teammates.

“We have seen glimpses of what he can do on the pitch, and we are very confident there’s a lot more to come from Rehan in the years to come.”
