Rishi Patel and Scott Currie Receive Hundred Calls

Leicestershire duo Rishi Patel and Scott Currie have both been called up to The Hundred following the final round of selections on Monday.

Patel earns a Vitality Wildcard Draft spot for Birmingham Phoenix following an outstanding run of form in the Vitality Blast for the Foxes.

The 25-year-old is leading the run-scoring charts this summer, amassing 385 runs at an average of 48.12, including a breathtaking hundred in the final ball tie at Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Friday.

Patel’s selection follows an outstanding 18 months for Leicestershire, which has seen the opener record eight centuries in all formats, including two in the Vitality Blast.

His 41-ball ton on Friday evening equalled Ben Raine’s record for the fastest Foxes century, while it was the second quickest by an Englishman in T20 Blast cricket.

Right-arm quick, Currie, has also been drafted into this summer’s tournament, joining two-time runners-up Manchester Originals as a replacement player.

The 23-year-old is set to cover the injured Josh Tongue, and will link up with fellow Foxes fast bowler Josh Hull at Emirates Old Trafford.

Currie has been extremely impressive during his loan spell from Hampshire this season, topping Leicestershire’s bowling charts in both Championship and T20 cricket.

The 6ft 5” seamer has taken 14 wickets at 16.64 in the Blast so far this campaign, conceding his runs at only 7.55 per over.

Patel and Currie join Hull and Rehan Ahmed in taking part in this year’s edition of The Hundred. All four will be eligible to return to Leicestershire for Metro Bank One Day Cup fixtures if they are not selected for consecutive matches in The Hundred.
