Roman Renews | Walker Signs Contract Extension

Leicestershire bowler Roman Walker will enter a fourth season with the Club after signing a new one-year extension at Uptonsteel County Ground.

The 24-year-old has taken 31 wickets for the Foxes since his arrival from Glamorgan at the end of the 2021 campaign, while he has also claimed 90 wickets in Second XI cricket.

A Wrexham-born seamer, Walker has featured most prominently for the Foxes in List A cricket, taking his career-best 6/43 in a 264-run thrashing against Kent en route to Leicestershire lifting the 2023 Metro Bank One Day Cup.

The Welshman also became the star of a 2022 tour match against India’s Test side, dismissing the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja to return figures of 5/24.

A capable batter, Walker scored 64 coming in at number nine on first-class debut against former county Glamorgan, while he opened the batting in this summer’s One Day Cup quarter-final victory over Hampshire.

Walker also shone as Leicestershire won the Second Eleven Championship in 2023, accumulating 29 wickets at an average of just 13.03 from eight matches.

Discussing his new deal, Walker said: “I’m really happy to extend my stay with the Club. It gives me another chance to prove myself and hopefully break into the First Team in all three formats.

“There’s a lot of hard work to come, but I’m fully focussed on putting in good performances consistently and showing I’m worth the time the Club has invested in me.

“It’s a case of taking any opportunity that comes my way and executing the role that the team needs me to do. I’ll put my hand up for anything if it helps the team; that’s my mindset.

“There’s so much confidence within the changing room heading into next year. We know we have the qualities to challenge for trophies and promotion. I’m excited to be a part of that journey.”

Walker will spend the winter in Australia, featuring for Kingston Hawthorne CC in Victorian Premier Cricket before returning to Uptonsteel County Ground in late February.
