It proved a tough day for Leicestershire on day two of the SEC match against Nottinghamshire at Loughborough Town CC. When bad light, and rain brought an early end to the day’s play, Nottinghamshire were leading by 290 runs with eight second innings wickets in hand.
Josh Neil replaced Sam King for Nottinghamshire because of a blow to the helmet suffered by King on day one.
Leicestershire resumed from their overnight 27-2, Nat Bowley 1*, Jamie Dunk 3*. The Foxes lost four wickets in the first 15 overs of the morning. Bowley (2), Dunk (20), Harry Swindells (9), and Nikhil Gorantla (11). After 25 overs Leicestershire were on 78-6.
Jay Madan (42) 65b proved difficult to dislodge as County attempted to rebuild their innings. Madan sharing partnerships of 48 and 44 respectively with Roman Walker and Sam Wood.
Leicestershire’s late middle order, and tail wagged somewhat with Walker (28) 44b, Wood (30) 64b, and Chris Wright (28) 19b helping the Foxes put the score beyond 200. Leicestershire were dismissed for 214 from 57.1 overs, the innings closing at 2.58pm. Alex Green (8&) 15b. Nottinghamshire led by 173 runs, but did not enforce the follow on.
Pip Jackson replaced Alex Green for Leicestershire during the change of innings.
Ben Martindale and Matthew Montgomery opened the innings for Nottinghamshire, but both were back in the Pavilion before Tea. Martindale (9) 11b was caught by Swindells from a delivery by Wood, and Montgomery (10) 23b was expertly caught at first slip by Sol Budinger, Wood again the bowler. Nottinghamshire into Tea on 50-2 from 14 overs.
In the 6th over after Tea the pair brought up their 50 partnership, and 7 overs later Schadendorf went to his 50 (6x4) 44b. At 5.21pm a combination of bad light, and rain stopped play. At 6.10pm with no improvement to the light, and with rain still falling, the Umpires abandoned play for the day. Nottinghamshire on 117-2, leading by 290 runs.
