Leicestershire’s Second XI picked up seven Derbyshire wickets in response to being dismissed for just 86, as 17 wickets fell on the opening day of their friendly at Belper Meadows.
Captain Roman Walker and Matt Salisbury each picked up two scalps, while Chris Wright and Liam Trevaskis claimed one apiece, as the hosts built a 100-run lead by the close.
Having lost the toss on a green-tinged pitch, Leicestershire saw Jay Madan (0) fall to Nick Potts in the opening over, caught behind by former Lancashire ‘keeper, George Lavelle.
The Foxes then lost three in four overs, as Trevaskis (6) was LBW to Pat Brown, before Rory Haydon had both Harry Swindells (1) and Sheridon Gumbs (19) held by Lavelle.
Ben Mike became Haydon’s third victim, bowled for 11, before the Staffordshire seamer sealed his five-fer by getting both Usman Minhas and George Maddy caught by Amrit Basra for ducks.
Wickets continued to fall as Sam Wood (8) and Chris Wright (11) came and went, with Jamie Dunk’s (25) stubborn resistance finally broken after a 77-ball stay at the crease to end the innings on 86.
Derbyshire got off to a similarly poor start, as Will Tarrant (1) was run out by George Maddy and Yousaf Bin Naeem (0) edged Walker to Trevaskis at second slip in the same over to leave the hosts five for two.
Opener Mitch Wagstaff was on 24 when he edged a wide delivery from Salisbury through to Swindells, but his partner Basra continued to move at a pace, hitting 13 fours and a six en route to 72 (82b) before he was trapped in front by Wright.
Leicestershire continued to chip away towards the close, taking three more Derbyshire wickets. Hawkins (4) was caught by Gumbs off Walker, while Lavelle (45) was LBW to Trevaskis, before Potts fell in the same manner to Salisbury for 15.
Derbyshire entering stumps on 186 for seven, leading by 100 runs heading into the second day.
