Sol Signs | Budinger Commits Foxes Future To 2027

Leicestershire CCC is excited to announce Sol Budinger has penned a new two-year contract at Uptonsteel Grace Road.

The entertaining opener, who has scored more than 3,000 runs in 88 appearances for the Foxes, has extended his deal until the conclusion of the 2027 campaign.

Budinger established himself as an integral part of Alfonso Thomas’ squad in the past 12 month, featuring as Leicestershire’s only ever-present across all formats last term. His superb form saw him top the Club’s run-scoring charts en route to being crowned Batter of the Year.

As well as earning personal accolades, the 26-year-old collected team silverware, recording 728 runs at 33 “ headlined by his maiden Championship century “ to help Leicestershire romp to the Division Two title.

Renowned as one of county cricket’s most attacking batters, Budinger blitzed a 15-ball fifty during the Vitality Blast opener against Derbyshire Falcons last summer “ the Foxes’ fastest ever T20 half-century “ while he added a third List A hundred in as many seasons during victory over former county Nottinghamshire in August.

Discussing his contract extension, Budinger told Foxes TV: “After three years at the Club - winning two trophies “ I know it’s the best place for me as a cricketer. It was a no brainer to put pen to paper.

“Playing consistently for three seasons has helped develop my game so much. There are still elements to improve, but I want to get better by working with the coaches to learn my craft. Hopefully that results in more hundreds and more wins next year.

“The Club is in a great position, and we feel we’re in for a very exciting few years ahead. With the players we have now, you shouldn’t put a cap on what we can achieve.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “Sol took his game to another level last season. The volume of runs he scored rewarded his hard work and showed the quality we know he possesses.

“He adds energy on the field and in our changing room, which is an infectious characteristic. We’re excited to see his development continue in the years ahead.”
