Surrey CCC | One Day Cup Match Preview - 06/08/2024

Leicestershire are taking the show on the road on Tuesday, as the Foxes return to Kibworth Cricket Club’s idyllic outground to face Surrey.

It follows a successful maiden trip last summer, in which Sol Budinger’s first Foxes ton helped the side to a hard-fought two-wicket win over Essex.

Sunday’s 10-run win at Hove means the defending champions have won three from four at the start of this campaign, while Surrey’s defeat to Notts leaves them rooted to the foot of Group B.

Last Time We Met:

Leicestershire kicked off their trophy-winning campaign last season with a commanding five-wicket victory at The Oval.

Tom Scriven picked up career-best figures of 5/66 in the first innings, as Ben Foakes’ hundred helped Surrey to 325 all out at the halfway stage.

The Foxes scored quickly in their chase, with Peter Handscomb hitting 57 on List A debut for the Club, before an unbroken 146-run alliance between Wiaan Mulder (67*) and Louis Kimber (89*) saw the side breeze to victory with 7.4 overs to spare.

Decisive Duel:

Sol Budinger has enjoyed a remarkable start to the tournament, with his 297 runs second only to Ed Barnard. The left-hander has made his runs at a mighty 74.25, with two 50s and one century from his four innings so far.

The explosive opener has shown more restraint in his game, but still boasts a strike rate of 102.06, smashing a tournament joint-high 10 sixes.

Fellow opener Dom Sibley has a contrasting style but can be just as effective. He sits top of Surrey’s run-scoring charts this term, recording 228 at 45.60, including a ton against former side Warwickshire.

Squad:

Matt Salisbury (calf) is ruled out, with 17-year-old Academy scholar Alex Green joining the squad that defeated Sussex. The 6ft 6” fast bowler has impressed for the U18s this term, taking 22 wickets at 15.86, while he made his England U19 ODI and Test debuts last month.

Leicestershire Foxes: Budinger, Cox+, Evans, Green, Handscomb, Hill*, Holland, Mike, Rahane, Scriven, Swindells, Trevaskis, Walker, Wood, Wright.
