Sussex CCC | One Day Cup Match Preview - 04/08/2024

Leicestershire make the trip to Sussex on Sunday, as they head to Hove looking to build on Wednesday’s three-wicket win against Essex. Ian Holland returns to the squad having returned as a champion from Major League Cricket.

The Foxes boast an incredible recent record on their travels in the One Day Cup, winning 11 of their previous 12 away days. The only defeat…a loss at Hove in August 2022.

Sussex have lost four from four at the start of the competition, including a nail-biting one-wicket loss at Neath against Glamorgan last time out. The home side are boosted by the returns of quartet John Simpson, Tom Alsop, Jack Carson, and Fynn Hudson-Prentice, however.

Last Time We Met:

As mentioned, Leicestershire’s only blemish on their near-flawless away record occurred against Sunday’s opposition at Hove in the 2022 campaign.

After being put in by the hosts, Leicestershire were reduced to 45/7 at a stage, before some late order resilience saw the Foxes limp to 120.

Chris Wright and Louis Kimber each picked up a wicket before captain Cheteshwar Pujara hit the winning runs for Sussex. It was the Foxes’ only away defeat of the campaign as they reached the quarter-finals.

Decisive Duel:

Liam Trevaskis has had a tough few months, missing out on the entirety of the T20 Blast with a back problem. Now back to full fitness, he’s showing exactly what he’s capable of.

Returning figures of 2/33 from his ten overs at Chelmsford, the left-arm spinner has the ability to keep tight control on the scoring rate in the middle phase of the innings. He has 37 List A wickets to his name, including a hat-trick for Durham last season.

In a potential battle of the spinners, leggie Archie Lenham also possess an array of tricks. The 20-year-old has made an impressive start to the tournament, taking four wickets at 22 in three innings, while conceding his runs at just 3.72 per over.

Squad:

Ian Holland is added to the travelling party having returned at the end of the week from the States. The all-rounder lifted the Major League Cricket trophy after triumphing with Washington Freedom.

Leicestershire Foxes: Budinger, Cox+, Evans, Handscomb, Hill*, Holland, Mike, Rahane, Salisbury, Scriven, Swindells, Trevaskis, Walker, Wood, Wright.
