Teekasingh Century Fires Under-18 Girls To T20 Quarters

A stunning century from Faith Teekasingh has helped Leicestershire Under-18 Girls qualify for the quarter-finals of the Vitality County T20 Cup.

The 16-year-old blasted 118 from just 64 balls as the Foxes thrashed Durham by 63 runs at Loughborough Grammar School to finish as winners of Group 4.

Tuesday’s win sets up a showdown with Somerset on 31 August at the same venue, as Stephen Franklin’s side bid for a second Finals Day appearance in four seasons.

Teekasingh hit 19 fours and one six during her destructive knock, reaching her maiden Foxes hundred with a pull for four off Ella Jackson during a run-laden 17th over, during which she blitzed 20 runs.

A promising opener, Teekasingh has been in scintillating form across the T20 campaign, recording 321 runs at 64.2 from eight innings, the second most in the entire competition.


The teenager’s 59-ball ton eclipsed her previous best of 94, helping Leicestershire U18s to 202 for seven “ their highest ever T20 total.

It proved too much for Durham to chase, as Teekasingh rounded off her fantastic display with 4-0-16-3 to restrict the visitors to 139.

She was assisted by fellow spinner Sophie Lawrence, who claimed figures of 4/24 to propel her to the top of the tournament’s wicket-taking charts with 17 victims at just 8.47 apiece.

The win was the first of the day against Durham, followed by a seven-wicket victory thanks to Izzie Fisher’s unbeaten 70 in a chase of 136.

A 28-point haul from the day “ and an eighth win from 10 - elevated Leicestershire to 106 points, three clear of Group 5 winners Sussex, which ensured their passage to the final eight.
