Trevaskis and Ahmed Make Comebacks As 2s Do Double Over Lancs

Leicestershire completed a duo of SET20 wins against Lancashire at Uptonsteel County Ground on Tuesday, with a host of First Team stars impressing.

Liam Trevaskis, Rehan Ahmed and Tom Scriven all caught the eye for Dips Patel’s side as they stepped up their returns from injury.

The Foxes took victory in the first game, reduced to 13 overs aside due to morning rain, by seven wickets.

Seam quartet Matt Salisbury, Sam Wood, Roman Walker and Scriven each picked up a wicket in the Powerplay, before Trevaskis struck with the first ball of the seventh over to leave Lancs 31/5.

Leicestershire’s attack kept the squeeze on throughout the remaining overs as the visitors limped to 84/9, led by captain Will Williams (31, 24b). Scriven (3-0-12-2), Wood (2-0-13-2), Salisbury (2-0-15-2), and Walker (3-0-22-2) each picking up two wickets.


Skipper Sam Evans hit 25 (17b) up top, while Liam Trevaskis made an unbeaten 23 to steer the side to a seven-wicket win. Tom Scriven hitting Josh Boyden down the ground for four with his first ball to secure the victory.

Lancashire won the toss and elected to bowl first in game two. Harry Swindells made a fluent 28 (22b) at the top of the order, before Rehan Ahmed (38, 25b) and Nikhil Gorantla (47, 32b) added 83 together.

Trialist Gorantla motored in the second half of his innings, taking 19 off a Jake Blatherwick over, concluded by back-to-back maximums.

Trevaskis (31, 20b) and Wood (22, 10b) added further late innings impetus as the Foxes reached 185/7 from their 20 overs.

Wood and Salisbury got the team off to the perfect start, reducing Lancashire to 13/2 after dismissing George Bell and Savin Perera.

Harry Singh (51) and Blatherwick (52) added 101 for third wicket to bring the visitors some hope, but both in the space of five balls to curtail those aspirations “ Salisbury and Walker with the wickets.

Lancashire reached 156/7, earning Leicestershire a 29-run victory. Walker (4-0-20-2) and Salisbury (3-0-20-2) each returning figures of 2/20.
