Trevaskis Lifts T20 Trophy As Six Winter Overseas

Whilst the winter work ramps up at Uptonsteel County Ground for the bulk of the squad, six Foxes have been in action overseas. Let’s take a look at how they’re getting on…

Liam Trevaskis:

It’s been a successful start to new Fox Liam Trevaskis’ stint Down Under, with the left-arm spinner helping Midland-Guildford to the WA Premier Cricket T20 title over the weekend.

The 24-year-old more than played his part, taking 11 wickets at an average of just 12.67 during his six matches. The Western Australian outfit defeated a Willetton side containing the likes of D’Arcy Short and Cameron Bancroft during Sunday’s final at the WACA, with Trevaskis dismissing the former en route to figures of 4-0-27-2.

Trevaskis, who signed a three-year deal with Leicestershire in August, has claimed 25 wickets at 18.56 across a mixture of T20, One Day, and Two-Day games in the Western Australia Grade Cricket competition so far.

Peter Handscomb:

After a stunning debut season in the East Midlands, Peter Handscomb is back churning out runs for Victoria in his homeland.

The Australian star has scored 393 runs at 35.72 in the opening six rounds of the Sheffield Shield, with a top score of 90 made during Victoria’s 205-run win over New South Wales at the end of October.

In the Marsh Cup, Handscomb has 127 runs at 25.4 from five matches, while he also set a new List A fielding record for his state “ pouching five catches against Queensland.

Wiaan Mulder:

Wiaan Mulder has also taken his impressive 2023 form into his domestic season back home. Playing for DP World Lions in South Africa, the all-rounder’s form has earned him a recall to the Proteas’ Test and ODI squads for their series against India this month.

His three first-class fixtures have yielded 272 runs at 54.4, including a century against North West, and 14 wickets at 21.14. In the CSA Provincial One Day Challenge, Mulder has 192 runs at an average of 36.25 and 6 wickets at 34.5.

The 25-year-old’s form included a remarkable knock of 96, made during an innings in which the next highest score was Ryan Rickleton’s six, with all ten of Mulder’s teammates making single figures.

Scott Currie:

As announced last week, Scott Currie will rejoin the Foxes in March for a season-long loan from Hampshire, but until then he will be wintering Down Under in Adelaide.

Playing for Adelaide University in the South Australian Grade Cricket League, the 22-year-old has made a decent start to his time in two-day cricket, picking up wickets at 28 and scoring his runs 31.33.

His sole T20 so far returned admirable figures of 4-0-25-2. Currie is set to return to action on Saturday against Port Adelaide (two-day) before facing Prospect on Tuesday in another T20.

Rehan Ahmed:

After spending November with the England Lions for a red-ball focussed development camp in the UAE, Rehan Ahmed has now joined up the senior squad for their white-ball tour of the Caribbean.

The Leicestershire Academy graduate starred on his fourth ODI appearance during Sunday’s defeat to the West Indies. He made a quickfire 12 at the end of England’s innings, before returning an economical allocation of 10-1-40-2, the thriftiest spell by any of Jos Buttler’s attack.

The leg-spinner could feature again on Wednesday afternoon, as England seek to level the three-match series.

Rishi Patel:

Another Fox involved in the UAE training camp is Rishi Patel. The former Essex man enjoyed a record-breaking season, which saw him accumulate six tons and become the first Leicestershire batsman to register a century in all formats in the same season.

The 21-player group flew out on 16 November, with the likes of James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, Ollie Pope and Brendon McCullum also in attendance for a portion of the tour, which finishes on 7 December.
