Leading manufacturer of high-efficiency heating and renewable energy systems, Viessmann UK, has partnered with Leicestershire CCC to install a new heating system with modern boilers and radiators in ‘The Meet’ “ the oldest building at LCCC’s Grace Road home.
The Meet holds historic significance at the Club, beginning its life as a single storey stand at Aylestone Recreation Ground, which Leicestershire CCC made its temporary home in 1901. On Leicestershire’s return to Grace Road in 1946, after the end of the Second World War, The Meet was dismantled, transported, and rebuilt in its current pitch-side spot.
Over the years The Meet has adopted a multitude of roles. In 1965, a second floor was added with a 130ft long room upstairs which accommodated a dancefloor, creating the unique structure that stands at Uptonsteel County Ground today. Currently, it’s known for housing the Club’s Medical Centre, and for becoming a temporary changing room facility for the men’s first team during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although a popular building, the age and condition of the heating infrastructure had proven to be unsustainable in recent years, especially with the UK-wide cost of energy crisis hitting homes and businesses.
Sean Jarvis, Chief Executive Officer at Leicestershire CCC, said: “This partnership with Viessmann UK marks a future-proofing step for the Club. The age and condition of our heating system in The Meet was causing significant inefficiencies, both economically and environmentally.
"We’re keeping a keen eye on how we become more sustainable as a business looking ahead, and thanks to Viessmann UK we’re anticipating a marked reduction in costs and emissions.â€
James Carter, Multi-Channel Manager for Viessmann UK, commented: “Viessmann’s purpose of 'Creating Living Spaces for Generations to Come' and our focus on climate solutions, renewable energy and CO2 reduction means that partnering with Leicestershire CCC and holding their hand through the journey of improving the infrastructure of the Club considerably is something that is close to our heart.
"These upgrades will not only reduce costs and CO2 emissions “ they will transform the way the Club consumes energy, ensuring they are sustainable for the future.â€
