Will Pucovski will no longer join Leicestershire for the start of the 2024 after a decision was taken to allow the Australian batter to focus on recovering from his latest concussion setback.
The 26-year-old was scheduled to link up with the Foxes for the opening five rounds of the County Championship but will instead take time to recover from a blow to the helmet suffered during Victoria’s Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania earlier this month.
Given the tight timeframe to the beginning of Leicestershire’s season, it has now been agreed Pucovski will remain in Australia.
Leicestershire CCC Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “It’s a huge shame to lose Will at this stage, but his health must come first.
“Given the proximity to the start of the English season, it has been agreed by all parties to allow him the necessary time to recover, and we want to wish Will all the best as he continues to recuperate in Australia.
“Our recruitment team have been aware of the evolving situation, and we have plans in place to ensure our team is as strong as possible heading into the season. As such, we will be able to announce a new overseas addition shortly.â€
The Club will issue an announcement on a replacement in due course.
