Will Pucovski Joins Leicestershire For Start of Season

Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce the signing of Australian international Will Pucovski for the start of the 2024 season.

The 25-year-old will feature alongside Victoria teammate Peter Handscomb for the Foxes during the opening five rounds of the County Championship while Wiaan Mulder concludes his domestic season in South Africa.

Pucovski is set to appear in all four of the Club’s April fixtures “ beginning away at Yorkshire “ before concluding his stint with Leicestershire following the trip to Lord’s at the start of May.

Touted as one of Australian’s best rising talents, the top-order batter has scored 2,197 runs at an average of 43.94 in his 34 first-class matches to date, including six centuries.

A batter with a proclivity for big scores, Pucovski became just the eighth Australian to make a Sheffield Shield double century before the age of 21 when he made 243 against Western Australia at the WACA in 2018, while he hit a career-best 255 not out against South Australia during the 2020-21 campaign.

His 2021 red-ball form, 591 runs at a mighty average of 118.20, earned him a maiden Test cap “ with Pucovski scoring 62 in the first innings against a strong India attack at the SCG.

Discussing the move, the Australian star said: “I’m super excited to join Leicestershire. Talking to Pete [Handscomb], he couldn’t speak more highly about the environment and Club’s group of players and staff.

“I can’t wait to get over there and be part of a successful start to the season.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said: “We are really pleased to have secured Will’s signature. He has impressed for a while in the longer format, and he will give our batting lineup a real boost at the start of the summer.”

Pucovski becomes the Foxes’ fifth winter addition, following the arrivals of Ben Cox, Liam Trevaskis, Scott Currie and Ben Mike at Uptonsteel County Ground.
