Yorkshire CCC | County Championship Match Preview - 19/09/2023

After the euphoric high of Saturday’s Metro Bank One Day Cup final triumph, Leicestershire are back in red-ball action tomorrow, welcoming Yorkshire to Uptonsteel County Ground.

The Foxes almost pulled of a miraculous chase of 499 against Sussex last time out, and will be looking to take the fight of their past two showings into one last push for promotion.

Yorkshire drew at Glamorgan in a high-scoring affair last week, and will be looking for a win to take them off the foot of the Division Two table.

Tickets:

Entry for day one will be FREE of charge, while the Metro Bank One Day Cup will be on show for Foxes fans to take a selfie or two.

Last Time We Met:

If Saturday’s win wasn’t the most memorable day of the 2023 season, it was certainly Leicestershire’s trip to Headingley in April.

The Foxes ended a 113-year wait for a first-class win at Headingley with an epic three-wicket victory on the opening round of the season “ chasing 392 inside 86 overs on the final day.

Rishi Patel’s maiden first-class ton, Colin Ackermann’s 72, Peter Handscomb’s debut ton and masterful 68* in the second innings, along with Chris Wright’s 40 from 32 balls sealing the epic win.

Fox to Watch:

Umar Amin can consider himself very unlucky to have not had a hundred to his name at Sussex. His 94 in the second innings showed exactly why Leicestershire secured his services for September.

His cool demeaner in the middle of the order is identical to Handscomb’s, and with almost 20,000 career runs to his name, the Pakistan international will be crucial to the side’s chances again this week.

Opposition Player to Watch:

What a start it’s been to Championship life for Finlay Bean. With 858 runs at 50.47 so far this term, he’s been a vital cog in Yorkshire’s run-scoring machine, and still has the chance to reach 1,000 for the summer.

The 21-year-old has an incredibly high ceiling, with three hundreds already to his name this year “ including one on the opening day against the Foxes. On that evidence, he’s a man Leicestershire need to get early.

Squad:

Saturday’s hero Harry Swindells is added to the squad alongside Will Davis. Matt Salisbury misses out through injury, Rehan Ahmed is away on England duty, and Wiaan Mulder has returned home to South Africa ahead of their domestic season.

Leicestershire: Ackermann, Amin, Budinger, Cox+, Currie, Davis, Evans, Hill*, Hull, Kimber, Parkinson, Patel, Scriven, Swindells, Wright.
