Friday night’s victory over Middlesex secured List A knockout cricket for the second year running, with Leicestershire now bidding to make it seven wins from eight to conclude the group stage. A win over the Vikings could seal a home semi-final a week on Friday.

Yorkshire hold qualification aspirations of their own. They currently sit sixth with as many points, but a couple of victories on the road would put them firmly in contention for a quarter-final spot.

Last Time We Met:

The previous meeting between the two sides back in 50-over cricket came in July 2021, with the Vikings taking victory by seven wickets in a high-scoring affair at Uptonsteel County Ground.

Marcus Harris and Lewis Hill each made centuries as Leicestershire set the visitors 328 to win, a Harry Duke hundred and an unbeaten 90 from George Hill helped Yorkshire chase down the total with 13 balls to spare.

The match was also notable for the fact 16-year-old Rehan Ahmed made his professional debut, making 7 not out with the bat and seeing his 10 overs go for 71.

In Focus:

His stay was only supposed to run for six weeks, but the Foxes will be glad Peter Handscomb prolonged his time at Uptonsteel County Ground this summer.

Friday’s composed fifty was essential to Leicestershire’s run chase, with Handscomb displaying the phlegmatic character that Foxes fans have become accustomed to.

In total, the Australian has four half-centuries from his seven knocks during the competition so far, passing 4,000 List A runs in the process. With no Colin Ackermann in the middle order, his presence is even more valuable.

Opposition Player to Watch:

A familiar face will be back on Grace Road tomorrow, as Ben Mike lines up in Vikings colours.

With seven wickets at 24.86 so far in the tournament, the all-rounder has shown his threat with the ball, while his firepower with the bat is already well known to those of a Leicestershire persuasion.

Mike smashed 30 from just 17 balls to turn the tide with David Weise in the Vitality Blast fixture at Uptonsteel County Ground earlier this summer.

Squad:

The Foxes name an unchanged 14-strong squad following Friday’s success over Middlesex.

Leicestershire Foxes: Budinger, Evans, Handscomb+, Hill*, Hull, Kimber, Mulder, Patel, Ramji, Salisbury, Scriven, Swindells, Walker, Wright.
